About Bosnia:
Bosnia first emerged in the 12th century; Herzegovina was later carved out of Bosnia’s southern region. After the 15th century, many Slavs from both areas adopted Islam under the Ottoman Turks. In early 1992, Muslims Slavs and Roman Catholic Croats voted for independence from Yugoslavia and most Eastern Orthodox Serbs were fiercely opposed. Peace was established after a peace accord was signed in late 1995.
